How It all Began.
The Story Behind the Cache Crew
What started as a simple cut hoodie in our home became the beginning of something much bigger.
One day, my wife Lani had a hoodie she didn’t really care for anymore. It was a little too tight, so she cut the hood off to give it a new feel and fit. Funny enough, I was immediately jealous because I loved the way it looked. So naturally, I decided I needed one too.
At the time, I had some "aloha shirt" material laying around the shop along with an old crewneck sweatshirt. I grabbed a pair of scissors, cut out the shape of a Hoodie pocket, and sewed it onto the sweatshirt myself. That first piece became my everyday work shirt in the workshop — covered in sawdust, paint, ideas, and long days of creating.

Then I made another one.
The next version had the sleeves cut off. Then another. And another.

Over the years, these sweatshirts became part of my daily life in the shop. They weren’t made for fashion at first — they were made out of necessity, creativity, and comfort while building things with my hands. The pocket slowly evolved into something functional and personal. A place for pencils, small tools, phones, brushes, and whatever the day called for.

Fast forward several years later, and God — put the right people in our path.
We connected with a manufacturer who shared the same values, vision, and passion for craftsmanship that we believe in at Makau Makers. Together, we were able to bring the Cache Crew and the Flow Pant to life in a way that stayed true to how it all began: thoughtful, functional, creative, and built with intention.

This is more than just a sweatshirt or a pair of pants to me.

It’s something I created from the heart. Something born in the workshop through years of use, trial, error, and inspiration. The pocket is extra special to me because I know creators, makers, artists, beach bums, craftsmen, and everyday people will all find their own use for it and make it part of their story too.
We’re incredibly excited to finally share this with the world, and we hope you enjoy what we’ve created here at Makau Makers.
